KoolSoother Gel-Filled Teether by NubyTM
This recall involves the NubyTM brand "KoolSoother" gel-filled teether, distributed exclusively in Canada by Elfe Juvenile Products.
The teethers affected by this recall are easily identifiable, translucent bubble gel-filled teethers with no hard plastic components. They were available in 3 distinct shapes and colours: frosty green monkey, frosty pink rabbit, and frosty blue teddy bear, and can be identified by model number 534590 and UPC 067988534590. The batch number "ef12j" is clearly identified on the exterior packaging of the product.
Once the product packaging is disposed of, consumers can determine whether the product that they have in their possession is affected by this recall, by comparing them with the pictures shown below. No other NubyTM brand teethers are affected by this recall.
Under the Hazardous Products Act, infant teether fillings must not contain any living micro-organisms. Testing by Health Canada of samples taken from batch number "ef12j" of the KoolSoother teether has revealed that the gel filling was contaminated with the bacteria Bacillus cereus/thuringiensis/mycoides. These bacteria generally do not cause illness in healthy individuals. However, the bacteria can affect children with weakened immune systems, causing stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea, if the teether is punctured and the gel from the teether is ingested.
In cooperation with Health Canada, Elfe Juvenile Products is recalling these teethers as they may pose a risk of illness to Canadian children if the teether is punctured and the gel filling is ingested.
Neither Health Canada nor Elfe Juvenile Products have received reports of incidents or illnesses related to the use of the teethers.
For some tips to help consumers choose safe toys and to help them keep children safe when they play with toys, see Health Canada's:

Consumers should immediately take the recalled teethers away from children and dispose of them in regular household garbage.
