Musical Shaker Instrument Recalled by Woodstock Percussion

Joint Recall with Woodstock Percussion Inc., Health Canada, and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC)

Full Product Description

These gripper shaker musical instruments are plastic, 14 centimeters (5.5 inches) long, with rounded, egg-shaped tops containing steel pellets, and open circular handles. They come in blue and green and are sold separately. The marking "B4" is printed on the rounded top of each shaker.

Only blue and green Gripper Shakers from production run "B4" are affected by this recall.

Hazard Identified

The handle can detach from the shaker, exposing a rough edge and posing a laceration hazard. The detached handle also exposes small steel pellets and a plastic plug which pose choking hazards.

The company received one report from a consumer that the handle on two Gripper Shakers detached. No injuries have been reported.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these shakers.

Corrective Action

Consumers should immediately take the recalled shakers away from children and contact Woodstock Percussion Inc. to receive information on returning the product for a $7 refund.

Number Sold

Approximately 720 units of the recalled products were sold at various stores across Canada.

In the United States, approximately 5,600 units of the recalled products were distributed.

Time Period Sold

The recalled products were sold by mail-order catalogs, websites and stores nationwide from August 2010 and March 2011 in Canada, and the United States.
